Indian man honoured for act of bravery

Dubai, Dec 25 (UNI) A 47-year old Indian from Kerala has been honoured for his act of bravery after he rescued five people from a sinking vessel that killed 55 people, including 21 Indians, in the worst such tragedy in Bahrain.

Nanu Raju rescued the survivors and used a mobile phone to call emergency when the vessel with 150 people on board capsized on March 30.

Raju, described as the "Al Dana dhow hero", described for the first time yesterday how he had miraculously dragged the survivors to safety.

The father of two children spoke at a ceremony held here to commend his bravery by the Art of Living Foundation in Manama.

The owner and captain of the vessel have been charged. The case is being heard in the Lower Criminal Court.
