Himmat Rai lifts Goodricke East India Amateur title

Kolkata, Dec 25 (UNI) Himmat Rai lifted the Goodricke East India Amateur Golf Championship 2006 with a win over local lad Surya Prakash here today.

Rai beat Surya Prakash 5-4 in the match-play final to win the the tournament, played at the par-72 Royal Calcutta Golf Club, to bring the curtain down on the eighth leg of the 2006-07 Royal Challenge Indian Golf Tour.

Anirbal Lahiri won the 'Strokeplay' title (played on the first two days of the tournament) with a tally of 141 while L Selvadurai finished second at 144.

''It feels great to win an event of the stature of the Goodricke East India Amateur Championship,'' said Himmat Rai.

''We have had a week of extremely competitive golf and there could be no better Christmas gift than the title win here,'' he added.
