Any attempt to postpone MCD polls will be opposed: BJP

New Delhi, Dec 25 (UNI) The Delhi Pradesh BJP today said it would strongly oppose any move by the Congress to postpone the MCD elections.

In a statement here, Delhi Pradesh BJP chief Harshvardhan said, ''If the Congress tries to postpone the MCD elections on any pretext then the BJP will strongly oppose it politically and legally.'' Dr Harshvardhan alleged that sensing its sure defeat in the forthcoming elections to the MCD, the Congress was trying many excuses to postpone the elections.

''The Congressmen belonging to Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit's camp are busy in the exercise of postponing the elections. Various excuses are being searched for this purpose. Fresh delimitation of Corporation wards is new anecdote of the Congress. However, neither the people of Delhi nor the BJP will tolerate this conspiracy of the Congress,'' he alleged.

''Two-and-half-years of the Congress rule at the Centre, misgovernance in Delhi for the last eight years and the looters rule in the MCD for the last five years have made lives of the people hellish. Price spiral has deprived sufficient nutrition to the people. Due to unreasonable taxes the people are spending a big chunk of their earning on the taxes,'' Dr Harshvardhan charged.

He alleged that on the occasion of completion of eight years of its corrupt rule on the December 15, Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit tried unsuccessfully to befool once again the people of Delhi through confusing datas and false assurances by issuing a colourful book.

''The people of Delhi are not going to be misled by the Congress,'' he said.
