Vedike activists protest Union Home Minister

Bangalore, Dec 24(UNI) Police arrested seven activists of Karnataka Rakshana Vedike when they tried to waive black-flags against the Union Home Minister Shivraj V Patil in protest against his pro-Maharashtra stand on Karnataka-Maharashtra border issue here today.

The incident took place when the Union Home Minister Shivaraj Patil started addressing the vast gathering at the valedictory ceremony of the 1047th year Jayanthi celebration of the Srivarathreeshwara Bhagavathpada of Suttur Mutt this evening.

The Karnataka Rakshana Vedike activists led by its president Praveen Kumar Shetty while trying to waive the black flag against the Union Home Minister also raised slogans against the center.

The police who were present in good numbers at the place managed to whisk away the Kannada activists and arrested them later.

Maharashtra Governor and former Karnataka Chief Minister S M Krishna, Acting chairman of the National Human Rights Commission Justice Shivaraj Patil, and Karnataka Home Minister M P Prakash were also present on the occasion.
