Udavum Karangal completes housing project for tsunami victims
Kancheepuram, Tamil Nadu, Dec 24 (UNI) Udavum Karangal (helping hands) completed the housing settlement project for tsunami victims at Kanathur Angalamman Kuppam in Kancheepuram district recently.
According to a release, Cine actor Sivakumar, inaugurated the Prashanthi Project by unveiling the plaque. The District Collector Pradeep Yadav addressed the gathering with a key-note of the entire project, comprising 72 houses.
Kanathur Angalamman Kuppam, once a serene fishermen hamlet in this district, was affected due to tusnami in December, 2004. As a part of the rehabilitation work, Udavum Karangal adopted this village for constructing permanent houses for the families. An MoU had been signed with the Government, accepting their construction norms.
Vidyaakar, founder-secretary, Udavum Karangal said resources from donors will be utilised to assist the needy people.
Mr Vidyaakar said, Udavum Karangal houses about 2000 residents from abandoned or orphaned new-born babies, to elderly dying destitute.
The Centre provides individualised services, treatment, care, rehabilitation and education to people in dire-straits, he added.
