TRS to organise massive agitation on Dec 29

Hyderabad, Dec 24 (UNI) Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) President K Chandrasekhara Rao today announced his party would organise a massive dharna on December 29 demanding nine-hour power supply daily to farmers in the state.

Addressing the press here, Mr Rao said the dharna would be organised on Rajiv National Highway in which about 2.5 lakh TRS activists would participate and block traffic from 1030 hrs to 1800 hrs.

Alleging the government has failed to provide sufficient power supply to the farmers and cheated the people by not implementing the promises made during the elections, he said the TRS would intensify the agitation in all districts with the support of farmers till the government accepted their demands.

Mr Rao said the December 29 agitation would be a historical event in the Telangana movement and would be organised from Tumkunta, a village located on the outskirts of the city to Manchiryal in Adilabad District, covering around 250 km.

Meanwhile, BJP activists today damaged furniture in the Mamunur Power Sub-station in Warangal District even as State Marketing Minister B Satyanarayana was gheraod by farmers seeking nine-hour uninterrupted power supply.

Police said the BJP activists along with the farmers squatted on the roads before the substation demanding power to protect the standing crops which were drying up for lack of water.

They later detained the officials and destroyed furniture.

In another incident, farmers blocked roads near Lingpalem Village of Vizianagaram District and gheraoed the Minister who was on an official visit resulting in traffic chaos.
