Seng Khasi expresses concern over Rymbai's remarks
Shillong, Dec 24 (UNI) The Seng Khasi in Meghalaya has expressed deep concern over the statement of Chief Minister J.D.Rymbai that development scheme should be implemented by Christian missionaries in the state.
Perturbed by Mr Rymbai's remarks, the Seng Khasi, an organisation promoting the indigenous faith, urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to restrain the Chief Minister from making such ''indiscreet, emotional and sectarian'' statements.
''Such remarks would offend the sense of justice and fair play of the people belonging to faiths other than Christianity, particularly the indigenous Khasis,'' the Seng Khasi stated.
''By channeling the Central funds through that group, the government is planning to save the bureaucracy from its responsibility and power,'' the Seng Khasi alleged.
The Seng Khasi also wondered as to how the Chief Minister could make such a statement in a democratic and secular country like India.
In the recent times, Chief Minister J.D.Rymbai said that the state government had prepared a plan to entrust the Christian missionaries the implementation of various Centrally-funded schemes.
