New national champs emerge in JK Tyre National Road Racing

Chennai, Dec 24 (UNI) Delhi's Gaurav Gill, Rayomand Banajee of Pune and the local lad Saran Vikram emerged the new national champions in the Formula Rolon Chevrolet, Formula Hyundai and Formula LGB Swift categories respectively in the JK Tyre National Road Racing Championships, which concluded at the Irungattukottai track near here today.

In the sixth and the final leg of the races in the Formula Rolon Chevrolet category, Gaurav Gill and Gaurav Dalalt raced neck to neck in the first three laps until Gill broke away and went on to build a considerable lead.

Gill was racing for Team Wallace Sports. Ameya Walavalkar of Team Speed NK Racing, who was in the third place till the last lap failed to complete the race, enabling Anand Prasad of Team Gemini Racing to finish third.

In Race two, Chennai's Sarosh Hataria of Team Wallace Sports clinched the first place, the first win in this season.

Mumbai racer Ameya Walavalkar of Team Speed NK Racing and Chennai youngster Aditya Patel of Team Amaron NK finished second and third, respectively.

In the Formula LGB Hyundai category, Pune racer Rayomand Banajee of Team Meco started in the pole position.

Rayomand maintained a good lead and held on to it to notch up yet another fine win.

While Chennai lad Ajay Kini from Wallace Sports finished second, Chennai's Ashwin Sunder from Team Gemini Racing finished third and came up with an impressive performance to claim the honors in Race two.

Championship winner Rayomand Banajee finished second while veteran racer from Coimbatore and Team Prime Racing took the third slot.

In the Formula LGB Swift category, Ajay Kini of Team Wallace Sports started second on the pole and did extremely well to move past pole leader Ashwin Sunder to develop a good lead and finally to win the race.

Championship leader Saran Vikram from Chennai and Team Wallace Sports starting seventh on the grid demonstrated his driving skills to move up second.

B Vijay Kumar of Team Prime Racing finished third.

Pole leader Ashwin Sunder had to pull out in the eighth lap as his vehicle developed a problem.

In the second race, Ashwin Sunder in full cry blazed the tracks to record a great win with a margin of over 11 seconds.

A close tussle between Mumbai racer Sahil Shelar of Team Rams Racing and Ajay Kini saw Sahil finishing in second place.

Ajay had to be content with the third place.
