Media must meet public expectation: Pachauri
Bhopal, Dec 24 (UNI) Union Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Suresh Pachauri today urged mediapersons to discharge their responsibilities properly and come up to people's expectations.
Expressing concern over growing mistrust in media, Mr Pachauri said mediapersons must exercise caution as sometimes presenting news in enthusiasm or haste for the sake of popularity could badly impact society.
He was inaugurating a seminar organised by the Association of Applied Videography Professionals here today. The seminar was chaired by Mayor Sunil Sood.
Pointing out that political leaders and parties were assessed over a period of time unlike day-to-day evaluation of media and mediapersons, he said mediapersons must behave as per public expectations.
Underlining the importance of media in the development of the country, he said media could play an important role in ending ills in society by presenting facts.
Advocating freedom of media and underscoring lack of study among mediapersons, Mr Pachauri said real import of a topic was lost due to inadequate knowledge of subject.
He assured that all possible assistance would be provided to mediapersons by the Centre.
He presented a 'shawl' and coconut to teachers for their contribution in educating mediapersons.
Earlier, film director Sudhir Mishra said understanding public taste was a challenge before media. Public expectation were neglected sometimes because of censorship and in a bid to increase TRP ratings.
