KPCC chief's call to party workers on local body polls

Mysore, Dec 24 (UNI) Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) President Mallikarjuna Kharge today called upon the party workers to prepare for the upcoming local body elections in the state and strive hard for victory.

Addressing Congress workers of the Chamundeswari Assembly Constituency here, Mr Kharge said the byelection victory in the constituency would further boost the party's consolidation in the state.

''Despite the ruling coalition partners efforts to defeat the Congress and its candidate Siddaramiah in the elections 'by all means, is lost,'' Mr Kharge said.

''However, they should accept the people's verdict,'' Mr Kharge said even as he came down heavily on the government for its alleged failure to take up any development work.

''Even according to the government's claim, it had spent only 40 per cent of the budget allocation during the last nine months.'' He wondered how it could utilise the balance in three months time.

Mr Kharge termed the upcoming elections in the state as a 'Mahayodha' and his party was already preparing for them. He expressed confidence that the Congress would emerge victorious in the local body elections to be held by January and February, next year.

Thanking the voters on behalf of AICC President Sonia Gandhi for the victory of the Congress candidate, he described it as an historic win where margin was unimportant.
