Jagjit Singh to enthrall at Taj Mahotsav
Agra, Dec 24 (UNI) Jagjit Singh -- the numero uno of the ghazal world, who has enthralled music lovers over the world for almost four decades now, would once again give a welcome respite from the raucous bhangra dhols and the inanity of Indipop at the Taj Mahotsav.
The singer accompanied by tabla ustad Zakir Hussain will rock millions of hearts at the 15th Taj Mahotsav -- 2007. The entire area would be echoed by tabla maestro's famous dialogue 'wah Taj boliye'.
The Taj Mahotsav at Agra is a culturally vibrant platform that brings together the finest Indian crafts and Cultural nuances. It is a festive introduction to Agra and Uttar Pradesh conducted by Uttar Pradesh Tourism. While, Agra is renowned for it's breathtaking, centuries old monuments, UP is rich in heritage of arts, crafts and culture.
The festivities commence with a spectacular procession inspired by Mughal splendour. Bedecked elephants and camels, drum beaters, folk artists and master craftsmen all help to recreate a visual delight reminiscent of the golden era of the Mughal Darbars. A food festival with exotic cuisines and delicacies is also conducted.
The craft Mela exhibits exquisite crafts like marble inlays, wood carvings from Saharanpur, brass and other metal ware from Moradabad, handmade carpets of Badohi, the blue pottery of Khurja, the Chikan work of Lucknow and Benarasi silk. One can experience a profusion of folk music and dances of Bundelkhand, 'Nautanki' (Drama), 'Sapera' dance of Rajasthan, Lavani of Maharashtra shayari (poetry), and classical dance performances as well as elephant and camel rides and games.
Uttar Pradesh Tourism Department Joint director D K Verman said due to an inferno at the last Taj Mahotsav, the organising committee had to face a huge loss. This year, all efforts are being made to avoid any such incident, he said.
Mr Verman added over Rs 59 lakh would be spent for cultural events this time.
District Magistrate Sanjay Prasad said Bollywood singing sensations Alka Yagnik, Sonu Nigam and Kailash Kher would add glitter to the event mesmerising the audience by their melodious voice. Besides, eminent Laughter Challenge participant Raju Srivastav would make you laugh from the bottom of your heart, he said.
