HC Judge calls for awakening against female foeticide
Chandigarh, Dec 24 (UNI) In a bid to create legal awareness against female foeticide, Punjab and Haryana High Court Judge Rajesh Bindal today said there was a need to initiate a public movement to mobilise support for eradicating the menace.
Addressing a Rural Lok Adalat at Nangal Sarohi village in Narnaul district, Justice Bindal said the declining sex ratio in Haryana was compelling people to purchase brides belonging to the tribal communities. He regretted that such a trend may hamper social development amongst the future generations in the state.
He appreciated the awakening in youth, particularly among girls, against social evils, such as cruelty against women and dowry deaths. He hoped that legal awareness could be generated even more through public initiatives.
He said that cases were being solved at the doorsteps of the villagers through the medium of Lok Adalats.
''Out of a total of 3356 cases put up in this rural Lok Adalat, 1177 cases were decided, a fine of Rs 98,375 was collected,'' he said.
