Haryana state rural games in February
Chandigarh, Dec 24 (UNI) The Haryana government has decided to hold State Level Rural games in February at Sonepat, Chief Parliamentary Secretary, Dharabmir Singh disclosed here today.
He recalled that the previous government had discontinued rural games in the state which had adversely affected the development of rural sports in Haryana.
He lauded the role of the present Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda who had restored the concept of rural games which were now being oganised at the block, district and state levels. He felt that these games would provide ample opportunity to the budding talent in the rural areas and would help them to compete at national and international level, thereby bringing laurels to their state and country.
Expressing his satisfaction, Mr Dharambir said that due to the introduction of the Sports Policy in the state, the sportspersons hailing from Haryana had performed exceptionally well at Asiad Games held recently at Doha by winning a number of medals for the country.
He said that mini stadia would be set up in the larger villages with the aim to promote rural games and to provide sports facilities to the sportspersons. Each stadium would be built at a cost of Rs 45 lakh to Rs 50 lakh approximately and would be equipped with flood lights and sports gear.
He emphasised that sportspersons should be given adequate incentives so that the youth of the state are attracted towards sports. He added that the winners of each team in rural games would be given prizes in addition to 10 kg of desi ghee while the runners would be given 5 kgs of desi ghee each.
