Haryana govt sets up Consumer Welfare Fund

Chandigarh, Dec 24 (UNI) The Haryana government has earmarked a sum of Rs 50 lakh for setting up of a Consumer Welfare Fund for the protection of consumer rights, Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda today announced.

The government has also set up 135 consumer clubs in schools in the districts of Narnaul, Hisar, Jind, Sirsa,Gurgaon and Rohtak to educate the students about their consumer rights under the provision of Consumer Protection Act, he said on the occasion of Consumer Protection Day.

The Chief Minister urged the people especially voluntary organisations, to acquiant the consumers of their legitimate rights so that they could get qualitative things at competitive prices. He urged the consumers that in case of any complaint, they should immediately approach their respective District Consumer Forums or State Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission for redressal of their grievances.

He also urged the trading community to adhere to the provisions of Consumer Protection Act as it was their moral duty to provide the consumers, quality articles at genuine rates.

He said that the state government had also set up District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forums in all the 19 district of the state to redress the grievances of the consumers. He said that District Level Consumer Protection Council had also been set up in the Ssate.

Deputy Chief Minister Chander Mohan who holds the charge of Food and Supplies Department, said that with a view to bring efficiency and quick disposal of cases through consumer forums, computerisation system was being introduced at State Consumer Redressal Commission office and at all the District Consumer Dispute Redress Forums.

He said that with a view to motivate the consumers, Jagriti Shivirs had also been organised at Karnal, Hisar, Jind and Bhiwani districts. He disclosed that the Union Government had sanctioned a sum of Rs 23.75 lakh for undertaking consumer awareness activities in the state.
