Cong leader plea to Sonia, PM
Chennai, Dec 24 (UNI) Former Union Minister and All India Congress Committee OBC Cell Chairman K C Lenka today urged Congress President and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to constitute a separate OBC Parliamentary Committee similar to the one on Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe.
Addressing a press conference here, Mr Lenka said it would be very useful for the OBCs if such a committee was formed as it could discuss issues and problems faced by them and sought Parliament's help for the same.
A delegation of OBC MPs recently met Ms Gandhi and Dr Singh in and apprised them on the urgent necessity for setting up the committee.
Mr Lenka thanked Ms Gandhi and Dr Singh and Union Human Resources Development Minister Arjun Singh for fulfilling the dreams of the OBCs by enacting a special law providing 27 per cent reservation for OBCs in Central Government-aided higher educational institutions.
He also welcomed the Union Government's move to enact another legislation for providing 27 per cent reservation for OBC in private sector also and wanted it to implement the measure at one stroke after discussions with the managements.
