CM constitutes Agriculture Development Committee
Chennai, Dec 24 (UNI) As part of fulfilling yet another poll promise made during the Assembly elections, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi today constituted an Agriculture Development Committee under his leadership.
An official release here said the Committee would look into the problems faced by the agriculture sector and suggest remedial measures, besides working for the improvement of productivity and fixing proper price for the agricultural produce.
Secretaries of the Agriculture, Finance, Cooperative, Food and Consumer Protection and the Agriculture Production Commissioner would act as co-ordinators of the Committee.
The Committee would also have 16 ex-officio members, including the Vice-Chancellors of Tamil Nadu Agriculture and Veterinary Universities as special invitees.
With State Agriculture Minister Veerapani S Arumugam as the Vice-Chairman of the Committee, it would also comprise representatives from Agriculture, Horticulture, Agricultural Marketing, Animal Husbandry, Fisheries and Dairy Development sectors and also experts from Agriculture and Horticulture sectors.
A special committee had been formed under the presidentship of Agriculture Minister Veerapandi S Arumugam.
While former Congress MLA K S Alagiri had been appointed as the Vice-Chairman of the special committee, Secretary of Agriculture Department, Directors of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry Departments and Vice-Chancellor of Tamil Nadu Agriculture University were the other members of the committee, the release added.
