Accused in Kavita case will not be spared: Ajit Singh

Lucknow, Dec 24 (UNI) Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) President Ajit Singh today made it clear that leaders from his party would not be spared if they are found involved in the Dr Kavita Rani case.

Talking to mediapersons here, the former Union Minister said, the Meerut police was investigating into the matter and stringent action would be taken against any of his party members, if there was any proof of their involvement.

Meanwhile, Meerut's Senior Superintendent of Police Navneet Sikera told UNI over telephone that two months back, Dr Kavita's parents had lodged an FIR in Siyana police station in Bulandshahr district and now the case has been transferred to Meerut after no action was taken against the accused.

Mr Sikera added the main accused Ravindra Pradhan had already been arrested and Siyana police station in charge has been suspended for negligence on duty.

''Meerut police is leaving no stone unturned to catch the culprits and it would soon crack the case,'' he claimed.

The mystery behind the disappearance of the Meerut University lecturer two months ago has turned murkier after her cellphone details and letters proved her proximity with two UP ministers Kiran Pal and Babulal -- both from the RLD.

Meanwhile, Mr Pal, who holds charge of Basic Education rebutted all the allegations, saying he is innocent and accused Ravindra Pradhan is not connected to him.

''I am ready for the CBI investigation as everything would be crystal clear after that, '' Mr Pal maintained.

Dr Kavita Rani (29) -- working as a lecturer at the Lalit Kala Department of the Chaudhary Charan Singh University, Meerut has been missing since last week of October.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav has already ordered investigation in the case.
