Woman trampled to death by elephant
Diphu, Dec 23: A woman was trampled to death at Sarumati village under Kokajan police station of Karbi Anglong district last night .
Official sources said here today that three elephants entered the village and started damaging the rice granaries. When the house owner Minoti Mech (32) rushed out of her house to shoo the elephants away, the wild animals trampled her to death and damaged her residence, while her husband escaped unhurt.
The villagers, somehow, later managed to send back the elephants.
Wild elephants have, so far killed over 14 persons, and damaged several houses and standing paddy in the state.
Over a dozen elephants have also been killed in the human elephant conflicts in the state during 2006.
