Vaghela launches 'Bharat Nirman Abhiyan Lok Mahiti Utsav'

Himmatnagar, Dec 23 (UNI) Union Textiles Minister Shakersinh Vaghela today said the Gujarat government should make all efforts to inform people about the people-oriented programmes by the Centre.

Speaking at the launch of 'Bharat Nirman Abhiyan Lok Mahiti Utsav' (public information campaign) here, Mr Vaghela said the government machinery should ensure that the projects, designed for poor, tribals and women, reach the right target and are implemented in letter and spirit.

He said implemetation of the programme at appropriate level should be done faster. ''It seemed the bureaucrats were functioning at a snail's pace, '' he added.

He said the campaign should be carried out in coordination with the state government and local government bodies.

Speaking on the occasion, Gujarat Assembly Speaker Mangaldas Patel said the gap between urban and rural areas in the country has to be bridged and Gujarat has to take a lead in this Abhiyan programme.

He said migration of people from rural to urban areas, has to be halted by providing better employment and other facilities.

Also addressing the gathering, Congress MP from Gujarat Madhusudan Mistry said the benefit of people-oriented programmes should reach the eight crore people living in tribal areas.

''The government has made a law that each tribal family or the poor living in tribal areas for three generations would be allotted land for upliftment of their living standards,'' he said.
