Undertrials clash in jail, one killed
Mumbai, Dec 23 (UNI) An undertrial, lodged in the Arthur Road jail here, was killed and three others injured when two groups clashed this morning in barrack number six.
The two groups clashed at around 10:30 hours over sharing of water from a tap, police said.
Sharp weapons were used in the attack in which John Robert D'Souza was seriously injured. He was rushed to the State-run J J Hospital but succumbed to his injuries before admission, police said.
Three other undertrials, who suffered injuries, have been admitted to the hospital, police said. The injured have been identified as Prakash Baban Gawde, Sachin Gajanand Shetty, and Sayyed Irfan Hussain Ahmed.
D'Souza had been arrested in a robbery case. About one dozen cases of dacoity, robbery and house breaking were pending against him in different police stations across the city, police said.
