Govt organises festival to boost tourism

Agartala, Dec 23: The Tripura government has initiated a number of plans to boost the tourism industry of this hilly North Eastern state, covered with natural beauty and various lakes.

As per the state government's efforts two three-day tourism festivals will be held at at the Lake palace in Sonamura sub-division from December 27, the next such festival will be take place at Sepahijala under Bishalgarh sub-division of west districts respectively from January 27 to woo tourists.

In the 5 sq. km long Rudrasagar, the palace called 'Neermahal' was built by the then Maharaja of this princely state Bir Bikram Manikya Bahadur and was constructed by a British Company 'Martin and Burn' in the middle of the lake water in 1930. It took nine years to complete the work.

The tourism department has illuminated the palace with solar lights, but it becomes more beautiful and more attractive at night specially during the full moon.

On the other hand, the Sepahajala has a big lake having natural beauty. Besides there is a zoo where spectacle monkey, available only in this state, and other various species could be seen.

For the three-day programmes, various cultural programmes, seminar and cycle rally will be held to make the festival a grand success.

Besises, there are also a number of tourist spots in this hilly state including, Unokoti at Kailashahar in North, Matabari (Tripureswari temple) at Udaipur in South, Pilak at Belonia also in south and Dambur lake at Gandacherra in Dhalai respectively.
