Traffic from Srinagar to Jammu resumes after 2 days
Srinagar, Dec 23: Traffic from Srinagar to Jammu resumed this morning on the 300-km-long highway which was closed for two days due to landslides and shooting of stones at Penthal.
A traffic police official said vehicles, including trucks loaded with fruits and carrying passengers, were today allowed to leave for Jammu. However, no vehicle will be allowed from Jammu to Srinagar, he added.
He said the highway will remain open as a one-way until further orders.
Official sources said about 2000 vehicles were stranded on the highway since December 21 after the only road linking Kashmir valley with the rest of the country was closed due to landslides and shooting of stones triggered by heavy rains at Penthal.
The Border Roads Organisation (BRO), responsible for the maintainance of the highway, pressed into service hundreds of labourers and sophisticated machines to clear the landslides last evening.
All vehicles stranded on the highway were allowed to pass till late last night, sources said.
