TNTDC increases turnover, profit

Chennai, Dec 23 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation (TNTDC) has achieved a turnover of Rs 3,013.20 lakhs till November this year, compared to last year's turn over of Rs 2,645.98 lakhs during the same period, state Tourism Minister Suresh Rajan said today.

Addressing a press conference here to announce TNTDC's new one day package service to the temple town of Tirupati, he said the higher turnover also meant a growth rate of 14 per cent.

He said TNTDC, has also achieved a profit of Rs 318.55 lakhs till November as against Rs 268.48 lakhs during the same period.

Mr Rajan said the state tourism department would also introduce motor boats running on environmental friendly fuel at all major boat houses at Pykara, Muttukkadu and Udhagamandalam tourist resorts.

He also announced that a rope car service would also be introduced in the tourist resorts of Kodaikanal, Udhagamandalam, Kannyakumari and Yercaud at an estimated cost of Rs 45.28 crore.

Secretary Information and Tourism department Government of Tamil Nadu V Iraianbu said the southern states have formed a South Indian States Tourism Promotion Council to promote tourism to increase the flow of domestic and foreign tourists to southern India.
