Teacher protesters on Vikas Yatra route lathicharged
Sangrur, Dec 23 (UNI) Teachers on a silent protest march at Dhuri in the district today alleged that they were lathicharged and arrested by police for being on the way of the Chief Minister Amarinder Singh's Vikas Yatra.
The peaceful protesters under the banner of Punjab Aided School Teachers' Union demanding salaries, gratuity and provident fund at par with the government teachers and the timely release of the government financial aid, were also roughed up by the police, the union President Gurcharan Singh alleged adding that even some women teachers received baton injuries.
However, SP Dharam Singh, while conceding that 100-odd teachers were taken into preventive custody in view of the Chief Minister's Vikas Yatra in the region, denied that there was any lathi charge on the demonstrating teachers.
