Special court remands BMC Asst PRO to police custody
Mumbai, Dec 23 (UNI) The Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) special court (holiday) today remanded Assistant Public Relations Officer of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) in police custody till December 26 for accepting a bribe.
ACB sources said Vithal Anandrao Chavan, who was trapped yesterday by them while allegedly accepting Rs 20,000 bribe, had demanded Rs 1.5 lakh from a street vendor Ramdev Jagannath Gupta, for allowing him to make the shop, situated on the Fashion Street in South Mumbai, into a permanent structure. Gupta agreed to pay the amount in instalments. Simultaneously, he registered a complaint with them.
When the complainant yesterday went to pay the first instalment of Rs 20,000 to Chavan in his office, the ACB sleuths laid a trap and apprehended him red-handed.
There were several complaints against Chavan in the past, the sources added.
Chavan was produced before ACB special court (Holiday) this afternoon, which remanded him in police cutody till December 26.
