RRC to create awareness on HIV/AIDS: Governor
Vijayawada, Dec 23 (UNI) The Red Ribbon Clubs (RRC) launched by the National Aids Control Organisation (NACO) and Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) to create more awareness on 'HIV/AIDS' was doing a fantastic job in Krishna district, Andhra Pradesh Governor Rameshwar Thakur said today.
Addressing a gathering at a conference on Red Ribbons Club at Tummalapalli Kalakshetram here, he said by launching such clubs, the number of voluntary blood donors could be increased.
Appreciating the good work done by the IRCS and the Acharya Nagarjuna University and Dr NTR Health University by involving themselves to run these clubs and make the students to participate in it, the Governor called up on other universities to come forward to run these clubs.
Mr Thakur said the medicine bank inaugurated by him earlier would be a boon for people living Below Poverty Line as they could get medicines free of cost.
The Governor, who is also IRCS state president assured that he would ensure that all medicines were provided to the needy.
Krishna District Collector Navin Mittal said 750 red ribbon clubs were functioning in the district with the involvement of 12,000 members of various schools and colleges.
