Offices in Jharkhand to function 5 days a week from next year

Ranchi, Dec 23 (UNI) Government offices in Jharkhand will function for five days a week from next year, a decision that simultaneously slashes number of casual leaves to 12 from 16.

Cabinet Secretary Aditya Swarup today said the state government employees, would have to work from 1000 to 1800 hours with half-an-hour recess from 1330 hrs.

As per existing schdedule the offices function from 1000 hrs to 1700 hrs in summer and 1030 hrs to 1700 hrs during winter.

The government justified the decision saying the employees were given two full days to address their personal needs so that they could provide quality service in offices.

The government also pointed out that by reducing the working days to five, it could curtail 20 per cent of establishment cost by saving on fuel and power.
