MDMK rebel leaders removed from party posts

Chennai, Dec 23 (UNI) The Marumalarchi DMK (MDMK) today stripped rebel leaders and MPs L Ganesan and Gingee N Ramachandran of their party posts, setting the stage for a show-down.

An emergent meeting of district secretaries, high-level committee, political advisory committee, political analytical wing and parliamentary board, adopted a resolution temporarily removing the two leaders, MDMK General Secretary Vaiko said in a statement.

The meeting, orginally scheduled to be held here on December 25, was organised at Kambam Nagar in Theni District and chaired by Party Treasurer and MLA M Kannappan, Mr Vaiko said.

The two leaders, who raised a banner of revolt against party leadership, were, however, allowed to continue as members of party's lower wings.

While Mr Ganesan would continue as member of Keezhaiyur Wing in Thanjavur District, Mr Ramachandran would continue as member of Aviyur Branch in Villupuram District, Mr Vaiko said.

The resolution adopted at the meeting said the two leaders had acted violating party discipline and brought disrepute to the party with an aim to destablise the organisation.

It empowered Mr Vaiko to sack the two leaders from the primary membership of the party.
