Khajuraho be made no-fly zone, says ASI

Bhopal, Dec 23: The Culture Ministry has urged the Civil Aviation department to ensure that aircrafts are not permitted to fly over the ancient temples at Khajuraho in Madhya Pradesh for the safety of the world heritage site.

Culture Ministry Additional Secretary and Archaeological Survey of India Director General C Babu Rajiv wrote a letter to the Director General of Civil Aviation in this regard recently pointing out that the ancient monuments were subjected to vibration as the Indian aircrafts fly over it or closeby.

He pointed out that the Airports Authority of India had also been approached with a request to change the flight route, but positive response was yet awaited.

The Khajuraho temples, famous for its sculptures, attract tourists from abroad and different parts of the country.
