Indo-Pak Joint Survey of Sir Creek from Jan 15

New Delhi, Dec 23 (UNI) India and Pakistan will conduct a joint survey of Sir Creek from January 15 and have worked out technical details for the purpose.

At the two-day technical-level talks which concluded in Rawalpindi today, the two countries also agreed to verify during the survey the outermost points of their respective coastlines with regard to the equidistance method.

The discussions were held to ''decide the coordinates for a joint survey of Sir Creek and adjoining areas without prejudice to the positions of the two countries, as well as to simultaneously hold discussions on the Maritime Boundary,'' an External Affairs Ministry spokesman said here.

The Pakistani delegation at the talks was led by Maj Gen Jamil Ur Rahman Afridi, Surveyor General of Pakistan, while the Indian side was led by Rear Admiral B R Rao, Chief Hydrographer.

''The two sides worked out the technical details of the joint survey in an amicable manner. It was agreed to commence the joint survey from January 15, 2007,'' the spokesman said.

The two sides also held ''useful'' discussions on various options to delimit the maritime boundary.

The leader of the Indian delegation also called on Pakistan Defence Secretary Lt Gen (Retd) Tariq Waseem Ghazi today.
