Former DVB official sentenced to 4 years RI
New Delhi, Dec 23 (UNI) A special CBI court today sentenced a former Delhi Viduth Board (DVB) official to four years' rigorous imprisonment for illegally amassing wealth.
Special CBI judge G P Mittal handed down the sentence to former DVB superintendent A K Gupta and also imposed a fine of Rs one lakh on him.
Gupta was convicted for having disproportionate assets to his known sources of income. Police had seized Rs 21 lakh from Gupta at the time of his arrest. Of the total amount, Rs 13 lakh was illegal.
He is also facing charges of graft in another case. Gupta was caught red handed on February 26, 1997 while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 5,500.
While pronouncing the sentence, Justice Mittal directed that Rs 11 lakh be deposited with the state exchequer so that it would be a deterrent for others.
