Farmer attempts suicide in AP

Hyderabad, Dec 23 (UNI) A farmer today attempted to commit suicide protesting against the Andhra Pradesh Government for taking over his lands to lay approach road at Shamshabad Airport, which was under construction, on the outskirts of the city.

Police said the farmers resorted to dharna at Shamshabad airport in protest against acquiring their lands and not paying compensation to them.

One farmer, Narasiha Reddy, who had consumed poison, lost his fertile land. He was immediately admitted to Osmania General Hospital for treatment.

Two more farmers, who also attempted to commit suicide, were averted, police added.
