Double pole for Gill, Banajee, Ashwin Sunder

Chennai, Dec 23 (UNI) The trio of Gaurav Gill, Rayamon Banajee and Ashwin Sunder scorched the MMST Track at Irrungattukottai to notch up double pole each in the sixth round qualifying races of the JK Tyre national racing championships today.

Championship leaders Gill and Banajee continued their good run in the Formula Rolon and Formula LGB Hyundai category, while Ashwin Sunder stole the show in Formula LGB Swift.

Formula Rolon Chevrolet class saw the continuing domination of Delhi driver Gill.

Racing for Team Wallace Sports, Gill had no problems in setting up the fastest lap to grab the pole position for Race 1 with a timing of 01:52:726.

Gill came up with a repeat performance to take the pole in Race 2 also with a timing of 01:53:024.

Pune driver Banajee, racing for Team Meco, had a field day as he annexed pole position for both the races in Formula Hyundai category. Rayomand had the fastest lap timings of 01:58:855 and 01:59:293 respectively.

Starting second in the grid in both races will be young Chennai lad Ashwin Sunder from Team Gemini Racing.

Formula LGB Swift category saw Ashwin Sunder stealing the show and grabbing pole positions for the races.

Ashwin had the fastest lap timings of 01:57:184 and 01:57:596 for Race 1 and 2 respectively.

Promising Chennai youngster Ajay Kini did well to annex the second grid position for both the races.

Races for the Grand Finale will commence tomorrow.
