Dense fog in Delhi; Air, Rail services disrupted
New Delhi, Dec 23: Dense fog enveloped the national capital this morning, leading to a drop in visibility levels even as the mercury dropped to 8.2 degree Celsius.
Flight operations and rail traffic were severely disrupted due to the fog in Delhi.
At around 0400 hrs all flight operations at the Delhi Airport were suspended for more than three hours as visibility had dropped below 15 mts. All operations were resumed only after 1130 hrs when the fog had cleared and visibility was 1500 mts, an Airports Authority of India spokesperson said.
''After 1130 hrs we started all operations. But the backlog was massive and it will only be cleared by late afternoon,'' he added.
Passengers, facing long delays, had a harrowing time at the airport as well as railway stations in Delhi.
The fog also led to traffic jams in many areas. The minimum temperature dropped to 8.2 degree Celsius from yesterday's 9.1 degree.
The South Easterly winds maintained the chill in the atmosphere.
The weathermen has forecast a further drop in mercury in the next few days due to snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal and Uttaranchal and rain in Punjab and Haryana under the influence of a fresh western disturbance.
In fact, the weatherman have forecast a drop in minimum temperature tomorrow to 8 degree.
The foggy conditions are also likely to remain for a day or two with the weatherman forecasting fog in the morning in the next 24 hours.
