Kakkan's son on indefinite fast
Chennai, Dec 23: Mr Packianathan, son of late Congress leader and Tamil Nadu Minister Kakkan, commenced an indefinite fast here today, condemning the 'adamant attitude' of Tamil Nadu Congress Committee President M Krishnasamy in refusing to give a place for Kakkan's portrait at Kamarajar Arangam in the city.
Mr Packianathan told reporters his father, a freedom fighter, was known for his simplicity, honesty and sincerity. He was one of the top leaders of the Congress and was in the good books of leaders like Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Lal Bahadur Shastri, Indira Gandhi, Kamaraj. As a state Minister, he had served the people, who still remembered him. But despite his repeated requests to place Kakkan's portrait in Kamarajar Arangam, the TNCC leadership was refused, he added.
He said he had reported the matter several times to the Congress High Command, but till date, there was no reply from them too.
