BJP amends constitution to strengthen organisation

Lucknow, Dec 23 (UNI) The BJP today amended its constitution to strengthen the party organisation at all levels.

The meeting of the party National Council here amended Article 21 of the party's constitution to ensure that people holding important posts were able to discharge their duties without any ''apprehensions and worries''.

The amendments were moved by former party president M Venkaiah Naidu and were adopted unanimously.

The move is being seen as an effort to avoid embarrasment to important party functionaries as had happened in the case of General Secretary (Organisation) Sanjay Joshi who quit the party after being embroiled in a controversy in December last year following a sex CD scandal.

The Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh 'pracharak' was reinstated in the party in April this year.

The amendments were brought in order to ensure a long tenure for people whom the party felt were ''necessary'' to strengthen the organisation.

The amendments authorises the party president to appoint one or two more organising secretaries to assist the General Secretary (Organisation), at the national level. Similar provision had been made for the State President authorising them to make such appointments.

Besides, the national president has also been authorised to appoint Zonal Organisation Secretaries to look after the organisation work in two or more states.

The amendments also stipulates both for the appointment and removal of the General Secretary (Organisation) prior consent of the party natinoal president will be mandatory.
