BCCI says no to proposal to include cricket in 2010 CWG

Mumbai, Dec 23 (UNI) The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) today said the proposal for inclusion of the willow sport at the Commonwealth Games, to be held in 2010 in New Delhi, has been rejected by them.

The BCCI's working committee, which met here today, took the decision considering the International Cricket Council's (ICC) tours itinerary.

BCCI treasurer N Srinivasan, after the meeting, informed reporters that since India would be burdened by the itinerary, which the ICC draws for all the teams, it would not be wise for the Board to give consent to the proposal for including cricket in the Commonwealth Games as a medal sport.

Cricket has featured in the Commonwealth only once in Malaysia in 1998 and then a half strength Indian team was sent for the Games, as India were playing against Pakistan in the Friendship series in Toronto in Canada during the same time.
