Badal appears in court in corruption case
Ropar, Dec 23: Former Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh and his son Sukhbir Badal today personally appeared in a court for the hearing of a corruption case in which the judicial proceedings against them resumed following a Supreme Court judgement.
Special Judge G S Saran fixed January 10 as the next date of hearing of the case, which had been filed by the Punjab Vigilance Bureau against the Mr Badal, his son, his wife and seven others after the Congress formed the government in the state over four years back.
Their counsel submitted before the judge that Mr Badal and his son had personally appeared in interest of the hearing despite that they had not got any summonses for personal appearance for the same.
The judge then fixed January ten as the next date of hearing for arguments on framing of the charges of corruption against the Badals and their associates.
Significantly, the hearing in this high profile case has resumed following a Supreme Court judgement that a state government did not need the permission of the Centre for judicial proceedings against former chief ministers and ministers.
