'WB must not stand on 'false prestige' on Singur'
Lucknow, Dec 22: The BJP today asked the West Bengal government not to stand on 'false prestige' on the Singur issue in view of the deteriorating health of Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee, who is on a fast for the last 18 days.
BJP General Secretary Arun Jaitley told mediapersons after the commencementof the party's National Executive that the ''Communists and its friends were implementing the very thing they were opposing in other states.'' Considering the health situation of Ms Banerjee, the state government should not stand on prestige, he urged.
He said the Left parties were unable to give an answer as to why they could not provide adjacent waste land to Tata Motors and insist on giving fertile agricultural land at Singur, ignoring protests of not just the affected farmers but experts and intellectuals.
Mr Jaitley said that BJP's policy on Special Economic Zones was clear and it wanted location of export-oriented units and new industries to come up in waste land, keeping the cultivable land exclusively for agriculture.
The Executive will consider the report of M Venkaiah Naidu's report on status of SEZs in the country. Mr Naidu was asked at the previous BJP Executive at Dehradun to come out with a detailed report on the issue after consulting all stakeholders in the game.
The report was released during the Parliament session and the party would adopt its line after discussing the issue.
BJP President Rajnath Singh, in his inaugural address, touched upon the Singur issue and expressed his concern about Trinamool Congress leaders's well being.
