Chennai, Dec 22 (UNI) Puthiya Thamizhagam president K Krishnasamy today appealed to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi to make reservation in jobs mandatory while signing MoUs pertaining to dealership and supply with multinational companies or joint venture promoted by private firms for setting up new industrial units in the state.

Talking to newspersons here, Dr Krishnasamy said the state government had given thousands of acres of land and provided other infrastructural facilities either free or at concessional rates to multinational giant car makers Ford and Hyundai when they established manufacturing units near Chennai, a few years back as part of globalisation.

Though the two companies initially agreed to provide employment to those who parted with their land for their car project, they subsequently failed to honour their promise, the PT leader pointed out.

Mr Karunanidhi, who was fighting for social justice should take note of it and henceforth make it mandatory to earmark reservation for providing jobs and other aspects before signing any MoU with multinational units or joint venture or anybody, who availed government concessions, he added.

Expressed his anguish over inter-state river disputes, particularly on the Mullaiperiyar dam issue, which was hotting up and hampering the interest of people of Tamil Nadu, he said there was no problem as the inter-state agreements were inked during the British rule.

However, after the formation of linguistic states, the inter-state river disputes started to gain momentum, affecting not only the relationship with neighbouring states but also incurring huge losses to agricultural activities, he added.

In order to overcome this problem the then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru suggested that natural resources like rivers should be divided into five zones under which every state would become self sufficient in sharing the river waters, he pointed out.

Dr Krishnasamy urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress President Sonia Gandhi to reconsider the suggestion of Nehru and implement it solve the inter-state river disputes permanently.
