Thane dy Mayor quits BJP to join Congress

Thane, Dec 22 (UNI) In a setback to the BJP ahead of the civic elections, the deputy Mayor of Thane Ganesh Salvi, along with his supporters, left the party to join the Congress.

Disgruntled with the BJP for ''treating him badly,'' Salvi finally decided to join the Congress.

He said the local leaders of the party were given step-motherly treatment and they felt they had no future in the party, the deputy Mayor said in a statement here.

Along with him, hundreds of party workers and some from the Shiv Sena also joined the Congress.
