Students stage walkout at convocation
Chennai, Dec 22 (UNI) Tension prevailed at the venue of the XI convocation ceremony of the Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Science University here today when a section of students and their parents walked out of the function to protest the presentation of certificates by the Department Heads.
This decision of the university irked the students who were expecting to receive their certificates from the State Governor and Chancellor of the University Surjit Singh Barnala and Chairperson, Protection of Planned Varieties S Nagarajan.
The angry students and their parents told newspersons that the authorities, in the name of security, insulted them by giving away the certificates by the faculty instead of dignitaries like the Governor.
On this information, Governor Barnala sent the University Dean to persuade the agitating students.
The Dean and other officials brought the students back to the proceedings and finally, the Governor distributed the certificates.
