Rs 7.07 crore rehabilitation plan for beedi workers
Kozhikode, Dec 22 (UNI) Kerala government has drawn up a Rs 7.07 crore rehabilitation plan for 13,000 labourers of the ailing Kerala Dinesh Beedi Cooperate Society in the state.
Talking to newspersons, after handing over a cheque for Rs four crore as advance of the government grant for the scheme to Society Chairman K V Kunhiraman, State Industries Minister Elamaram Karim said the scheme envisaged setting up of two garment export units for the purpose.
Each unit, proposed at Pinarayi in Kannur and Kanhangad in Kasargod district would get Rs 260 lakh, out of the total allocation, he said.
According to the plan, about 1,000 labourers would be rehabilitated in the first phase of the project, the Minister hoped.
The government also proposed to set up a jem cutting unit at Kasaragod. The proposed Rs 42 lakh project would be able to employ about 100 workers, he added.
