Bangalore, Dec 22 (UNI) As many as 29 students and 26 teachers were presented the 'Race for Awareness and Knowledge' and 'Broad-Outlook-Learner Teacher' awards, instituted jointly by Air India, Deccan Herald and Prajavani, at a glittering function here today.

The awards were distributed by Karnataka Primary and Secondary Education Minister Basavaraj S Horatti and Mysore Printers Ltd Joint Managing Director Tilak Kumar.

Lauding the efforts of Air India and the newspaper for encouraging students and teachers, Mr Horatti said ''the Government alone cannot bear the responsibility, cooperation from private and corporate sector is much needed to implement policies for the betterment of students and the teaching community.'' Congratulating the award winners, Mr Kumar said the award had encouraged students, especially from the rural areas.

Air India Regional Director P K Gupta, speaking on the occasion, said the award was instituted to recognise excellence outside the field of academics and designed to ignite creative talent among students and question how the teacher packaged his lessons so that learning could become fun, motivating and exciting.
