Probe against ex-ministers politically motivated: Chandy

Thiruvananthapuram, Dec 22 (UNI) Terming the reported decision of the Home Department to hold preliminary probe against ten former ministers ''politically motivated,'' Leader of the Opposition in the Kerala Assembly Oommen Chandy today urged the Achuthanandan Government to come out with details of the inquiry.

Talking to newspersons here, he said Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan should disclose all the details of the probe before the public, instead of creating a smoke screen over the issue.

''We suspect that it is an attempt to divert the attention of public from the embarrassment caused to the government on the SNC Lavalin issue in which it conveyed to the High Court that there is no need for a CBI inquiry into the issue,'' he added.

He alleged that the Marxist-led Government was using police and vigilance departments as a tool for narrow political mileage.

''When we were in power, we never used vigilance as a weapon against political opponents,'' he said.

Referring to the CPI's opposition to the Asian Development Bank loan, Mr Chandy said the Left parties were trying to create a smoke screen over the issue and the decision to take loan was taken by all the five Left-ruled city corporations. The decision on developmental activities could have been taken three years back, if the Left parties had not raised a hue and cry then, he added.
