Periyar Statue: HMK chief held

Coimbatore, Dec 22 (UNI) Police today arrested Hindu Makkal Katchi (HMK) State President Arjun Sampath at Pollachi, about 40 kms from here, this evening in connection with the Periyar Statue case.

Police said Sampath was arrested on the charges of damaging the staute in front of the Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple in Srirangam on December seven.

Sampath was absconding and the police launched a search for him.

He was arrested at his relative's house at Pollachi.

He was later taken to Tiruchirapalli under heavy security.
