India, Bulgaria Extradition Treaty effective from Feb

New Delhi, Dec 22: The Extradition Treaty between India and Bulgaria will come into force from February 2007 with the two countries having completed the final process.

The two countries signed a Protocol on Exchange of Instrument of Ratification of the Extradition Treaty here on December 21, making way for the Treaty to come into force.

The two countries had signed the Extradition Treaty on October 23, 2003, during the State Visit of President A P J Abdul Kalam to Bulgaria.

The Protocol was signed by Mr Nalin Surie, Secretary (West) in the External Affairs Ministry, and Bulgarian Ambassador to India, Dragovest Goranov, here on December 21.

The Instruments of Ratification were also exchanged between the two sides.

''The Extradition Treaty will be effective from February one, 2007,'' an External Affairs Ministry spokesman said today.
