HC upholds death sentence of triple-murder accused
Chandigarh, Dec 22 (UNI) The Punjab and Haryana High Court has upheld the death sentence to Des Raj, a resident of Sangrur, for the murder of three people three years ago.
A Division Bench of Justices Virender Singh and A N Jindal confirmed the death sentence awarded by a District and Sessions court on December 7, 2005. However, the court directed that the sentence was not to be executed till the expiry of period prescribed for an appeal in the Supreme Court.
The Bench also upheld the acquittal of another accused in the case.
Des Raj, a resident of Qila Rehmatgarh in Sangrur district gunned down Manjit Kaur, Bhagwan Singh and Lal Singh after an altercation over littering in front of his house by the deceased.
While Manjit and Bhagwan died on the spot, Lal Singh succumbed to his injuries in a hospital.
