Chandigarh, Dec 22 (UNI) To popularise solar energy, the Haryana government has decided to provide rebate on electricity bills of the users of solar water heating system.

Haryana Deputy Chief Minister Chander Mohan said the state government had decided to provide rebate in the power bills at the rate of Rs 100 per 100 Litres Per day (LPD) capacity, for systems upto 300 LPD capacity in the domestic sector.

He said for a 100-litre solar water heating system, the rebate would be Rs 1200 annually while for 200 litres and 300 litres systems, rebate would be Rs 2,400 and Rs 3,600 per annum respectively.

Mr Mohan said the rebate in the state would remain effective for three years from the date of installation of the system and the expenditure would be met by the savings achieved by the power distribution companies on account of purchase of power from other sources at higher rates during the peak hours.

The state government had already made the use of solar water heating system mandatory in all residential buildings, which had been built on a plot of 500 sq yards and above falling within the limit of Municipal Committees, Municipal Corporations and HUDA sectors.

Similarly, the water heating system would be mandatory for housing complexes set up by Group Housing and Housing Board.

The Minister said there was a great potential to save energy by installing solar water heating system in the state. A domestic 100 LPD solar water heating system would be helpful in saving about 1200 units of power annually and 1000 such systems could contribute to a peak load saving of one MW of power.

Besides, a solar water heating system of 100 LPD capacity prevents the emission of about 1.5 tonnes of carbondioxide annually, he added.
