Defence Ministry's CSD touches Rs 4,500 cr in turnover

Bangalore, Dec 22 (UNI) The Canteen Stores Department (CSD) of the Defence Ministry, which enabled defence force personnel and their families to get consumer goods, durables and daily use items of good quality at a cheaper rate, has registered a turnover of Rs 4,500 crore during the last fiscal.

In a press note here today, the CSD, observing the national consumer awareness week from December 24, was presently serving over 16 million customers, comprising serving and retired armed forces personnel.

The CSD, which had a modest beginning with only four Area Depots and a turnover of Rs 48 lakh in 1948, had gone a long way and grown into a giant organisation with 34 Area Depots across the country.
